It has fundamentally changed the practice and procedures of all forms of endeavours within business, society, governance and in education.

This chapter focuses not only on the extent to which the teachers who participated in ICILS were using information and communication technology ICT in their classrooms but also on the classroom contexts for acquisition of computer and information literacy CIL. We begin the chapter by exploring the integration of technology into classroom practice i. We review how often teachers were using ICT in their pedagogical practice, look at the characteristics of teachers who were frequently using ICT when teaching, and consider how teachers were actually using ICT in their classrooms. From there, we look at the extent to which the participating teachers emphasized the development of CIL and the factors that were seemingly associated with them placing strong emphasis on CIL. Finally, we investigate several other details about pedagogical use of ICT.

This paper attempts to highlight the role of ICT in higher education for the 21st century. In particular the paper has argued that ICTs have impa cted on educational practice in education to date in quite small ways but that the impact will g row considerably in years to come and that ICT will become a strong agent for change among many educational practices. It is evident from the study that use of ICT in education is increasing ve ry rapidly in various states of India.
The widespread availability of information and communication technologies ICTs has generated new activity contexts that provide opportunities and resources for learning, at the same time as expanding the learning potential of traditional contexts such as the family and schools. Within this framework the present study analyses the frequency with which students of three ages 10, 13 and 16 years participate in ICT-mediated activities outside school, as well as the learning experiences associated with this participation. To this end, we used a multimethod approach combining administration of a questionnaire with focus groups and individual interviews. The term ICT is also used to refer to the convergence of audiovisual and telephone networks with computer networks through a single cabling or link system. There are large economic incentives to merge the telephone network with the computer network system using a single unified system of cabling, signal distribution, and management.
