DOI: The main objective of this contribution is to describe the fundamental concepts associated with solid-phase microextraction SPME. Theory provides insight when developing SPME methods and identifies parameters for rigorous control and optimization.

A mathematical model has been developed to understand the principal processes of SPME by applying basic fundamental principles of thermodynamics and diffusion theory. View PDF. Save to Library. Protocol for solid-phase microextraction method development

Headspace solid-phase microextraction procedure for gas-chromatography analysis of toluene in urine. Diego C. Netto; Rafael M. Reis; Camila B. Mendes; Paulo C. Toluene is widely used in industrial and laboratory applications and in many countries is related with social problems of abuse. Unaltered urinary toluene was introduced as a bioindicator of occupational exposure to the solvent, but its analysis presents difficulties due to the low levels of the compound excreted in urine.

The relatively new technique of solid phase microextraction SPME is an important tool to prepare samples both in the lab and on-site. SPME is a "green" technology because it eliminates organic solvents from analytical laboratory and can be used in environmental, food and fragrance, and forensic and drug analysis. This handbook offers a thorough background of the theory and practical implementation of SPME. SPME protocols are presented outlining each stage of the method and providing useful tips and potential pitfalls.

Polyaniline-polypyrrole coating for solid phase microextraction

A procedure for direct electrochemical deposition of polyaniline-polypyrrole blend coating on the surface of stainless steel wire was suggested. Incorporation of polyaniline and polypyrrole into the blend coating was confirmed by infrared spectroscopy. A possibility to apply the coating as a new fibre for solid phase microextraction was demonstrated. The coating showed better selectivity toward aromatic, hydrophobic compounds. Metrics details. An important aim of the European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use is the identification of very persistent, very bioaccumulative, and toxic substances. In other regulatory chemical safety assessments pharmaceuticals, biocides, pesticides , the identification of such very persistent, very bioaccumulative, and toxic substances is of increasing importance. Solid-phase microextraction is especially capable of extracting total water concentrations as well as the freely dissolved fraction of analytes in the water phase, which is available for bioconcentration in fish.
